Q: You serve your chapter as a member of the education committee. What motivates you to volunteer your valuable time to SMPS?
A: Learning from others and then using that knowledge to pay it forward. It’s rewarding to see my fellow marketers spark new ideas and realize the impact of our craft through their professional development.

Q: As a past chapter president of SMPS Connecticut, which HQ resource did you leverage most and how did that benefit your chapter?
A: The best resource by far are the professionals at the Society (shout out to Natalie Gozzard and Kevin Doyle!) whose expertise and ingenuity helped us see new possibilities. Markendium and Marketer were also great resources for identifying learning objectives and subject matter experts to support our programs.

The refreshed Domains of Practice are coming!

In partnership with Professional Testing Corporation, the Society conducted a Job Task Analysis survey to help define the scope of practice and knowledge needed for marketers and business developers in the A/E/C industries.

The resulting survey information provided insight on the core skills most critical for professional services marketing going forward, and the Society will release the refreshed SMPS Domains of Practice for Professional Services Marketing on April 1.

Springtime calls for nominations

Spring is when most chapter nomination and elections committees are preparing their call for nominations, or evaluating candidates, for available positions on their boards. Chapter bylaws contain provisions on this process, and chapter boards are responsible for operating the chapter in accordance with these bylaws.

Have questions regarding the process of calls for nominations or your current bylaws? Please contact SMPS Deputy CEO Tina Myers, CAE.

Are you using the SMPS Healthy Chapter Checklist?

The SMPS Healthy Chapter Checklist is intended to be used as a tool to objectively indicate where your chapter’s management practices stand. Each section of the checklist reflects components of chapter management and are being used by chapter boards and committees to self-audit their current practices and identify gaps. The HQ team is here to assist you with the gaps you may pinpoint. Please reach out to Component Relations Manager Dorothy Mitchell to set up a time to connect and discuss the outcomes of your checklist review.

Chapter programming idea

SMPS Master More Learning Labs feature timely topics presented by industry practitioners that can help build skills to work smarter, advance careers, and build firm business. They’re complimentary and available to SPSM members only.

Each lab is recorded and available on-demand in the Learning Labs folder in the Marketing Resource Center on MySMPS. Chapters can’t charge a fee for the labs since they’re a free member benefit yet your chapter can repurpose the recordings and provide opportunities to meet in person to learn and network.
