About the SMPS Business Developer of the Year award

The Business Developer of the Year award recognizes SMPS members who have demonstrated significant and measurable accomplishments in their role as business developer at their firm at various levels of experience. Nominees must demonstrate significant and measurable accomplishments both procuring and retaining clients in their role as business developer at their firm. This recognition will showcase the vital role of business developers within the A/E/C industries.

Call for Nominations will open in January 2026.

One recipient from each level of business development experience may be recognized as follows:*

Rising Business Developer Of The Year (2-5 years’ experience)
Impact Business Developer Of The Year (6-10 years’ experience)
Catalyst Business Developer Of The Year (11+ years’ experience)

*A winner in every category will not necessarily be awarded each year; please see eligibility and rules for details once submission window opens.

Marty Glaske, MA, CMIT, named 2025 SMPS Catalyst Business Developer of the Year

SMPS is proud to honor Marty Glaske, MA, CMIT, as the 2025 Catalyst Business Developer of the Year. An active member of SMPS San Diego and executive vice president of client development at Gafcon, Marty has dedicated more than 30 years to building relationships, advancing client success, and shaping sustainable growth in the A/E/C industry. His career reflects a steady rise through leadership, fueled by his commitment to mentorship, collaboration, and long-term vision.

Marty’s impact extends far beyond winning new work—he has trained staff in effective business development, launched client-focused initiatives, and fostered lasting partnerships that generate measurable results for his firm and community. A mentor, strategist, and industry advocate, he continues to invest in the next generation of professionals through SMPS and other organizations. Marty exemplifies the true spirit of business development: lifting others up while driving meaningful progress.

Eligibility:

Must be a current SMPS member for a minimum of three years
Must be employed full time as a business developer at a firm or agency that’s A/E/C focused.
Must demonstrate measurable results from their business development activity and accomplishments outside their normal scope of work (professional development and volunteer contributions) that’s worthy of distinction
Must be nominated by a current SMPS member; self-nominations are accepted
