Standing Up

SMPS is a diverse community, and we stand in solidarity with our Asian American-Pacific Islander (AAPI) members. We offer our heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families of the recent violence in Atlanta. We further recognize AAPI individuals have endured over 3,795 reported incidents of hate since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, as reported by STOP AAPI Hate, a coalition addressing anti-Asian discrimination during the pandemic. This violence, rooted in racist rhetoric, xenophobia, misogyny, and systemic discrimination, must stop. SMPS denounces all acts of domestic terrorism and anti-Asian sentiments and will continue to improve our efforts to educate, promote inclusion, and honor diversity. #StopAsianHate.
