SMPS Receives the 2019 EXCEL Award, Placing “Silver” in Promotional Content, Rebranding Category from Association Media & Publishing

Alexandria, VA (June 25, 2019)The Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) received the 2019 EXCEL Award in “Silver” in the category of Promotional Content, Rebranding from Association Media & Publishing (AM&P) during a recent ceremony. The EXCEL Awards recognize excellence and leadership in nonprofit association media, publishing, marketing, and communications. SMPS was listed as a finalist out of around 70 other associations and nonprofits from across the country, based on a total of around 800 entries.

The rebranding process started in 2016 when a research firm was engaged to identify the perspectives, opinions, and needs of its members. All members were invited to participate through surveys and focus groups. In late 2016, SMPS formally adopted its new vision statement: Business Transformed Through Marketing Leadership. In 2017, SMPS engaged another agency to advance the member research into specific branding components, including messaging, graphic identity, products, services, and the member experience. At Build Business 2018, the new brand was launched during a business lunch entitled, “The Big Reveal”.
