2023 SMPS Call for Leadership Application

The Society of Marketing Professional Services is looking for leaders to help us fulfill our vision of Business Transformed Through Marketing Leadership.

SMPS has issued the annual Call for Applications for the following positions on our two key governing bodies, the SMPS board of directors and the SMPS Foundation board of trustees:

  • 2023-24 SMPS President-Elect
  • 2023-25 SMPS Secretary-Treasurer
  • 2023-25 SMPS At-Large Director (1 open seat)
  • 2023–25 SMPS Foundation Trustee (8 open seats)

APPLYING FOR POSITIONS ON THE SMPS BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Candidates should be prepared to attend meetings within the following timelines along with occasional visits to chapters, regional meetings, and Amplify A|E|C (dates are subject to change, as well as whether the meetings and visits will be held in person or virtually):

  • Annual planning meeting 2023: June 12-14, 2023
  • Fall board meeting: September or October 2023
  • Winter board meeting: January or February 2024
  • Spring board meeting: April 2024
  • Annual planning meeting 2024: June 2024
  • Amplify A|E|C: August 2024

APPLYING FOR A POSITION ON THE SMPS FOUNDATION

The SMPS Foundation typically organizes a monthly meeting via conference call and has at least one in-person meeting, which is held in conjunction with Amplify A|E|C (held annually in July or August). The in-person meeting is subject to change and may be held virtually.

Please consider serving SMPS and the SMPS Foundation in a leadership capacity as we seek diverse perspectives to shape our Society and lead us forward.

  • **A minimum of five (5) years of active membership is required to serve on the SMPS board of directors, and candidate must be a current active member in good standing**

    Attach a letter of endorsement in the submission portal at the bottom of the application from your current chapter. Letter should be signed the by President, President-Elect, or Immediate Past President.

    Attach a letter in the submission portal at the bottom of the application from your current employer at the endorsing your candidacy and indicating willingness to support your participation on the SMPS of Foundation boards. If you are the CEO, owner, or self-employed, please provide a letter of commitment.

    Attach a statement in the submission portal at the bottom of the application of your reasons for seeking a position on the SMPS board of directors or the Foundation board of trustees. Include the contributions you believe you would be able to make in the position sought, your position or ideas with respect to any issues currently facing the Society or its members, and any other information you feel may be useful in evaluating your application (maximum 500 words).

    I hereby certify, by placing my name for consideration for the position indicated, that I understand election to the SMPS board of directors can involve my spending as many as 10-15 hours per month on SMPS business, that it will involve travel approximately four times each year to board meetings and to the annual conference, and may also involve additional travel to local chapter and regional meetings and participation in quarterly conference calls of the board.

    I further certify that I have read and agree to support the Society’s mission and goals; I intend to use my talents, experience, and available resources to complement those of the other members of the board; and I will place the needs and interests of SMPS above any personal or professional considerations when making decisions as a member of the board.
