Make a difference. Be engaged. Lead by Experience.

We are seeking an SMPS member who is ready to lend their experience and insight at the headquarters level in serving a two year position leading the Chapter Leadership Symposium (CLS). This two year volunteer position, serving as incoming chair for CLS 2021 and chair for CLS 2022, is a great opportunity to serve the Society and make a difference within the profession.

For more than 20 years, SMPS HQ has hosted an annual in-person event for incoming chapter presidents: The Presidents’ Leadership Symposium. In 2020, we enhanced the in-person program to provide training for both incoming chapter presidents and chapter program leads and, due to the pandemic, the SMPS Chapter Leadership Symposium (CLS) was successfully held as a virtual training program experience for chapter presidents-elect and chapter program leads.

This premier program focuses on developing the leadership skills of chapter leaders and ensuring an awareness of the services and programs available to all SMPS chapters by SMPS HQ. Society board members, HQ staff, CLS committee members, and featured speakers present virtually on a variety of topics such as leadership, governance and finance, education, crisis management, the vital role chapters play in delivering value to members, and the resources available to chapters through SMPS HQ.

CLS 2021 is being planned as a two-day virtual event in April 2021, complemented by monthly virtual programs leading up to April. No travel is required.

Volunteer must be a current SMPS member in good standing who has successfully served three consecutive years as a chapter president-elect, chapter president, and chapter past president.

Volunteer will assist with overall planning of symposium to include, but not limited to, content and logistics.

Volunteer must participate in approx. one hour bi-weekly committee calls starting in late October and participate in scheduled monthly virtual presentations as needed.

Volunteer must sign a conflict of interest statement.

Please submit your interest by October 14. Questions? Contact
