Last week, Hurricane Milton made landfall in the southeastern U.S., compounding the devastation already caused by Hurricane Helene. As the second major storm to hit the region in such a short time, Hurricane Milton brought more heavy winds, torrential rains, and flooding, further damaging communities that were still recovering.
Many residents, including some of our SMPS members, are once again facing power outages and impassable roads, adding to the overwhelming challenges. Reports state that these back-to-back hurricanes have created the largest infrastructure damage in recent U.S. history causing billions of dollars in damage. It’s difficult to imagine the enormity of the devastation and loss.
Our hearts go out to all who have been affected. To help, SMPS HQ has made a generous donation to the Red Cross. You can also help make a difference. If you can, we encourage you to donate as well, no matter the amount.
On behalf of the SMPS HQ staff and board of directors, we want you to know that we stand with those affected during this incredibly tough time. Our thoughts are with you, your families, friends, and loved ones. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at membership@smps.org if there’s anything we can do to support you.
We hope everyone stays safe and informed as we navigate the aftermath of Hurricane Milton and the ongoing recovery from Hurricane Helene.
