2019–20 Leadership Announced


The Society for Marketing Professionals Services (SMPS) is grateful for the enthusiastic response to our invitation for members to serve in volunteer leadership roles. The Nominations and Elections Committee thoroughly reviewed all the qualified applications and is pleased to present the slate of officers, directors, and trustees for the forthcoming fiscal year.

In accordance with the SMPS bylaws, the following candidates have been appointed by the Nominations and Elections Committee to fill three open positions on the 2019–20 SMPS board of directors:

  • President-Elect: Doug Parker, FSMPS, CPSM, Managing Principal, Zweig Group, Houston, TX (Term: September 1, 2019 to August 31, 2020)
  • Secretary/Treasurer: Barbara A. Stiles, FSMPS, CPSM, Vice President, Business Planning, WGI, Ocoee, FL (Term: September 1, 2019, to August 31, 2021) (Second term)
  • At-Large Director: Mike Wagner, CPSM, Marketing Director, Alliance Transportation Group, Inc., Duncanville, TX (Term: September 1, 2019 to August 31, 2021) (First term)

Four current directors will continue serving on the SMPS board in 2019–20 in the following positions:

  • Past-President: Chris Rickman, FSMPS, CPSM, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, ZFI Engineering Co., Oklahoma City, OK (Term: September 1, 2019 to August 31, 2020)
  • At-Large Director: Beth Harris, FSMPS, CPSM, Director-Business Development, Cumming Corporation, Atlanta, GA (Term: September 1, 2018 to August 31, 2020) (Second term)
  • At-Large Director: Catherine McCullough, CPSM, President/CEO, McCullough Landscape Architecture Inc., San Diego, CA (Term: September 1, 2018 to August 31, 2020) (First term)

The Nominations and Elections Committee also recommended and the SMPS board approved the following SMPS Foundation member trustees in 2019–20:

More About Our 2019–20 SMPS President-Elect and the SMPS Foundation President

Doug Parker, FSMPS, CPSM, is managing principal and CMO of Zweig Group. He is a strategic marketer and brand champion with more than 23 years of experience specializing in professional services marketing and firm management. Doug has served as associate principal/marketing director for a variety of firms. In 2009, he joined a 45-person law firm where he served as chief marketing and operations officer. After taking a year-long sabbatical, Doug joined Zweig Group to apply his operational and marketing experience. Doug is a 22-year member of the Society where he is an SMPS Fellow. He has served as secretary/treasurer of the Society’s board of directors and is a past-president of SMPS Houston. Other organizational service includes the Urban Land Institute, the American Institute of Architects, and SEARCH Homeless Services Community Advisory Board.

Brad Thurman, P.E., FSMPS, CPSM, is a principal and chief marketing officer of Wallace Engineering. He joined Wallace in 1987 and is a licensed professional engineer in five states. Since 1998, Brad has helped lead Wallace’s marketing and business development efforts across two disciplines and six offices. He is a past-president of SMPS Oklahoma and served as the 2013–14 president on the Society’s board of directors. He currently holds the position of president of the SMPS Foundation board of trustees. Brad was named an SMPS Fellow in 2009 and was inducted into the SMPS Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 2015. Brad serves on the Professional Advisory Committee for the Oklahoma State University School of Architecture and was inducted into the National Academy of Construction in 2018.
