Tucker
Receives Marketing Achievement Award
By
Kay Lentz, CEO, The Lentz Group, and Chair, 2000 Marketing Achievement
Award Committee.
Since 1987, the Marketing Achievement Award has honored individuals
who have made significant contributions to the profession of marketing
professional services.
This year's recipient, Randolph W. Tucker, P.E., has set the standard
for technical professionals as marketers of professional services.
Randy has directed marketing for the same firm, Rolf Jensen & Associates,
for more than 25 years-a rare feat in our ever-changing industry.
While he was continuously serving SMPS (co-founder of both the Houston
and Chicago Chapters and 1989-1990 National President), he served
the Society of Fire Protection Engineers and other technical organizations
with the same tenacity. Randy was even the first chairman of the
Marketing Achievement Award Committee (1987)-so it seems apropos
he should be so honored as the 2000 Marketing Achievement Award
recipient.
Randy's peers describe him and his contributions to the profession
with respect and enthusiasm.
"Randy is a great role model for those talented professionals who
want to expand their sphere of influence within their firms, their
industry, and their world (without having to change jobs to do so).
Not only that-he is living proof that you can accomplish all those
things and be a nice guy, too!" -Howard J. Wolff, Senior Vice President
and International Director of Marketing, Wimberly Allison Tong &
Goo
"Randy and I grew up together in the industry and SMPS. He is a
wonderful mentor and teacher to all. He teaches at the college/university
level, he is a great guide for young engineers, and he gives people
the opportunity to become leaders themselves!" -Phyllis Boyea, CPSM,
Director of Marketing, DBR Engineering Consultants, Inc.
"I've know Randy since a bunch of us founded the Chicago Chapter
in 1979 and can personally attest to his superior skills in networking,
business development, and leadership in the Society. But what I'd
never seen was his concurrent leadership on the technical side of
his profession: the teaching, the numerous articles, and the stewardship
of his particular consultancy. By recognizing Randy, we are applauding
an incredible blend of marketing skills, project/operational ability,
and professional dedication." -Lisbeth Quebe, FSMPS, Vice President,
RTKL Associates
"Some years ago, Weld Coxe made the point that Janet Goodman Aubry
had become a role model who created the career path for the 'non-technical'
person from marketing coordinator to firm principal. Randy equally
is that role model as the closer-doer; he has set the course that
legions of other aspiring 'technical' professionals can follow."
-W. Bruce Lea III, Marketing Director, Gilbane Building Company
"Having known Randy since the '70s when SMPS was in its infancy,
he is truly a well-rounded leader. I remember his no-nonsense approach
to his SMPS National Presidency when he developed and implemented
a long-range plan to get SMPS in the black, as well as his wearing
black as he picks his guitar and belts out lyrics to 'Red Neck Mother'
(it's a Texas thing)!" -Kay Lentz, FSMPS, CEO, The Lentz Group
"Randy Tucker is loved by his friends, valued by his clients, cursed
by his competitors, and admired by his peers. His tireless commitment
to education has resulted in over 50 articles and programs to audiences
from San Antonio to Singapore. Yet, there's another side of Randy
that few see. It's the side that has lived on airplanes and airport
food, in hotels and taxis, in the relentless pursuit of his true
passion: winning! Randy Tucker loves to win and hates to lose! I
know-I've done both with him for over 25 years." -William L. Peel
Jr., AIA, Chief Administrative
Officer, Metro National Corporation
