SMPS Marketing Resource Center

This prestigious award, the preeminent SMPS individual honor, salutes professionals whose achievements and lasting contributions to the field are exemplary. To be considered or to nominate a colleague, please follow these guidelines. Nominations are due May 5, 2006. To view previous Marketing Achievement Award winners, click here.

Eligibility
To be eligible, a nominee must be an SMPS member and have demonstrated significant and measurable accomplishments in at least three of the following five areas.

1. Research
The nominee must have created an innovative and successful research program involving either research studies on a market-related topic or research studies for a particular market.
2. Education
The nominee must have made a significant contribution to the education of others in the profession, including persons within his/her own organization, with SMPS, or within the profession as a whole. Activities may include writing, speaking engagements, or teaching university courses.
3. Professional Leadership
Within SMPS or his/her own professional field, the nominee must have held offices or chaired or served on a committee on a local, regional or national level; served as a recognized mentor or acted as an effective spokesperson for marketing professionals.
4. Marketing Communications
The nominee must have been directly involved in the creation of award-winning marketing and communications programs, including brochures, newsletters, videos, advertising, or public relations campaigns.
5. Innovative Programs
The nominee must have developed new marketing approaches or technologies that, as demonstrated by measurable results, have brought value to his/her firm and to the profession. Descriptions of specific actions and their impact are required.

Nominations
To be considered for selection by the committee, each nomination must arrive by the due date and contain:

  • a one-page overview of the nominee's achievements highlighting why they warrant the committee's consideration-followed by additional pages of narrative with representative exhibits describing his/her achievements in at least three of the five subject areas cited above
  • one original document plus five copies for distribution
  • a maximum of five letters of endorsement
  • a maximum of three exhibits
  • a minimum of two different slide views and photographs of the nominee (headshots preferred). Nominations may not be faxed.

Selection Process
The nominations will be reviewed by a committee of distinguished members from around the nation. The committee's recommendation for the award winner, if any, will be reviewed by the National Board of Directors, which confirms the final selection.
