2000 Chapter President of the Year Award Program
The
outstanding level of leadership exhibited by SMPS Chapter Presidents
and their commitment to our Society was exemplified in the 2000
Chapter President of the Year Award Program. The award is given
annually to the Chapter President who has shown exceptional achievement
in the areas of finance, programming, chapter visibility, member
recruitment and retention, and innovation.
Carolyn
Ferguson, CPSM, President of the Houston Chapter, was presented
with this year’s award at the National Marketing Conference in Austin,
TX. The jury was particularly impressed with Carolyn’s leadership
on numerous chapter initiatives. These included a scholarship program
supporting SMPS Houston members who wished to take the Certified
Professional Services Marketer exam, an innovative program series
titled “Clients with Work,” and numerous programs for membership
retention and recruitment that resulted in 20% chapter growth. Also,
Carolyn’s financial management skills resulted in a 20% increase
in the chapter treasury.
Lee
W. Slade, P.E., senior vice president of Walter P. Moore, summed
up the essence of Carolyn’s leadership style and its affect on the
Houston Chapter: “Her effective delegation, charming persistence,
and iron will to succeed have poised the chapter for continued health
and success.”
