MCA Judging Process and Awards

The 40th Annual SMPS Marketing Communications Awards program.

Who Are the Jurors?

Jurors are selected for their expertise in marketing, communications, and the design and building industry. The entries in each category will be evaluated on Judging Day by a panel of four or more jurors representing the A/E/C industry, media, design and graphics professions, and clients. Feedback by the jurors are provided to all entrants, along with their scores in their entry portal.

Judging Criteria and Scoring

All entries will be evaluated using the following point system:
1. Marketing Objectives-20
2. Research/Planning-10
3. Content Messaging-15
4. Content–Deliverable -20
5. Results-20
6. Creative Brief-15
Total 100 points

Point system subject to change. Awards will be given only if the entries meet all the necessary criteria.


Awards are distributed for first-, second-, third-, and honorable mention places in each category, as appropriate. Winners will be announced on stage at the SMPS Awards Gala on July 13 in Indianapolis during Build Business, the SMPS Annual Conference.

Best of Show Award

First-place entries in all categories will be considered for the Best of Show award. Editors of major national industry publications and representatives of industry associations will select the Best of Show. The winner will be announced during the SMPS Awards Gala on July 13.

People’s Choice Award

All finalists are eligible for the People’s Choice Award. Winning MCA entries will be displayed July 12-14 during Build Business. Conference participants will be invited to vote for their favorite entry. The winner will be announced during the SMPS Awards Gala on July 13.
