2006 Striving For Excellence Awards
The SMPS Striving for Excellence Program
recognizes excellence in chapter service to members. The following
chapters won Striving for Excellence awards for the 2005-2006
programming year:
Grand-Prize Winner: Georgia Chapter
President: Tiffany Posey, Inspection
Manager/Marketing, Certified Fire Protection Inc., Norcross,
GA
Service Accomplishments:
- Chaired the Southeast Regional Conference,
“Dealin’ in Dixie”
- Offered a minimum of 60 CEUs over the next three
years
- Enhanced mentoring by executing mentor/mentee
contracts
- Collaborated with ACEC, DBIA, NAWIC, and CMAA to
organize the program “Cultural Growth: Building Arts &
Entertainment in Atlanta” which had more than 100
attendees
- Marketed to nonmembers and minority firms through
the creation and distribution of a mailing piece, “How Educated Is
Your Marketer,” to increase awareness of SMPS
- Increased membership by 48%
- Doubled the number of program offerings for
senior members while also increasing mid- and entry-level
programming
- Doubled the number of member networking
events
- Provided funding for the Board of Directors to
attend National Conference
First-Prize Winner, Medium Chapter: Greater Cincinnati Chapter

- Embraced diversity through partnership with local
business incubator and a program on “Leveraging Diversity to Win
Work”
- Implemented new chapter identity to brand chapter
communications and web site
- Increased membership by 25% in an 8-month
period
- Created a unique new member orientation program
involving board and past chapter leaders
First-Prize Winner, Small Chapter: Long Island Chapter
President: Diana Soldano, CPSM, Director of
Marketing, Eschbacher Engineering PC, Melville, NY
Service Accomplishments:
- Chartered at National Conference in 2004 and have
already increased membership by 233%
- Organized chapter leadership succession plan
through 2009
- Participated as organizational leader for
Northeast Regional Conference
Outstanding Certificate Winner: Arizona Chapter
President: Stephanie Garry, Business Development

Service Accomplishments:
- Partnered with the Alliance for Construction
Excellence, Del E. Webb School of Construction, Arizona State University
to provide program on “Design and Construction for the
Non-Technical Professional”
- Implemented a New Member Activation Plan (NMAP)
to engage members
- Created “Did You Know” postcard
campaign to educate members and nonmembers on the benefits of
membership
Outstanding Certificate Winner: Connecticut Chapter

Service Accomplishments:
- Increased volunteerism among chapter members to
38% of membership
- Assisted in the creation of a first-time
volunteer leadership workshop for regional chapter leaders
