Ferguson Named 2000 Chapter President of the Year
The outstanding level of leadership exhibited by SMPS Chapter
Presidents and their commitment to our Society was exemplified in the
2000 Chapter President of the Year Award Program. The award is given
annually to the Chapter President who has shown exceptional achievement
in the areas of finance, programming, chapter visibility, member
recruitment and retention, and innovation.
Carolyn Ferguson, CPSM, President of the Houston Chapter, was
presented with this year?s award at the National Marketing Conference in
Austin, TX. The jury was particularly impressed with Carolyn?s
leadership on numerous chapter initiatives. These included a scholarship
program supporting SMPS Houston members who wished to take the Certified
Professional Services Marketer exam, an innovative program series titled
?Clients with Work,? and numerous programs for membership retention and
recruitment that resulted in 20% chapter growth. Also, Carolyn?s
financial management skills resulted in a 20% increase in the chapter
treasury.
Lee W. Slade, P.E., senior vice president of Walter P. Moore, summed
up the essence of Carolyn?s leadership style and its affect on the
Houston Chapter: "Her effective delegation, charming persistence, and
iron will to succeed have poised the chapter for continued health and
success."
The jury for the 2000 Chapter President of the Year Award included
